About
What is a stack, and why are there girls in them?
A stack is an orderly pile. Where would one find an orderly pile? Hmmm, perhaps the bookstore, or even better the library! We ‘girls’ love orderly stacks, especially what’s in them.
Why do we blog?
To share our thoughts, opinions, frustrations, excited-ness (is that a word?), ideas and theories with others. All with the hope that maybe, just maybe we can make some stack lovers out there too.
Why do we podcast?
To be heard? To fulfill our dreams of becoming pod stars? No, really we just love talking about books so much that we thought we would record our conversations and share them. Watch out because silliness may ensue. Be sure to find us on iTunes, just search “girls in the stacks.”
Who are the girls in the stacks?
We are friends who have a common interest in reading great books and a love of talking endlessly about them. We each have our own unique voice and opinions and aren’t afraid to share them.
Stacy – I love reading, a lot. I also love books, a lot. Matter of fact my passion for both were so fervent I became a librarian. I think books, coupled with reading, are a total sensory experience.
Currently, I am employed; however, I don’t get paid. I am a stay at home mom, but happily live with my wonderfully industrious husband, two children (one of each) and two fish that somehow, despite all the odds are still alive (R.I.P. Batman and Robin). Oh, and a not so secret passion of mine is soccer, you should see my bad, er…I mean mad skillz.
Shannan - I am a reader! I love to read all kinds of books, whether it is a chapter book with my son, Fancy Nancy with my daughter, or all the books that I seem to keep ordering from book stores! I am not a librarian, like Stacy, but have a lot of opinions. I am sarcastic and like to find the humor in life. Therefore, my reviews will not always be grammatically correct, but we’ll communicate none-the-less.
While I would like to list a multitude of hobbies, but really most of what I do centers around whatever my children are doing.
Nancy - In a former life I was an aircraft interior designer, now I am a stay at home mom who is never home. My life revolves around my family, PTA meetings, Cub and Girl Scout meetings, and reading! My two wonderful kids love to read also, and we share books and read together often. As a child, reading was my outlet, my escape, my passion … and as an adult it is also now my ”me” time. I read … a lot. Me, me, me!
Special Contributors!
Cheryl - I am a children’s librarian who adores reading and helping readers of all ages find just the right book. As well, I am a passionate scrapbooker and family historian.
Talking about books is powerful and exciting for me. Words are windows to our souls and being able to express ourselves provides a glimpse inside to the heart. Reading is a dialogue between the author and the reader, join us and let’s see what we uncover.
Sarah - a 34 year old wife, mother, volunteer and project manager. I am a graduate of Texas A&M University (class of ’98 – WHOOP!) and SMU (Cox School of Business for my MBA). I love sports – I will watch almost all sports, but my favorites are college football and NHL hockey (go Avs!)
I would love to say that I get to spend my day laying in a hammock and reading, but that just isn’t the case. I read for several reasons…to escape, to relax, to be an example to my kids (and my spouse), and to give me something to connect with others about that isn’t work or kids.
