STACKgirl January Book Buzz

Publishers know that in January we need to beat back the post-holiday blues with some awesome books.  Well, at least I do.  Plus all those who got a Kindle from Santa want to download some new and exciting books to read!  There are a lot of great titles coming out this month, and we had a hard time whittling it down to just ten.  Since our last list was eleven in honor of it being 2011, here’s our top eleven picks for this month!

Awakened (House of Night) by P.C. and Kristin Cast
Release date: January 4

Zoe and friends come back for another round with Neferet and Kalona.  I don’t know how Zoe will manage without Heath – I was majorly bummed out when he died in the last book - so you know I will be picking this one  up bright and early January 4th!

Shadowspell by Jenna Black
Release date: January 4

This sequel to Glimmerglass finds faeriewalker Dana Hathaway hiding in Avalon (the one place on Earth where humans and fae live together) and trying to stay alive.  Wouldn’t it be cool to be the only person able to travel between faerie and Earth?  Unless the Faerie Queen wants you dead … uh, not so cool.

Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Release date: January 4

Ooooh, this cover is gorgeous!  The text reminds me of the Beautiful Creatures cover … but I digress.  This story about a girl who learns she is part angel sounds very interesting and dang it I’d buy it for the cover alone.

XVI by Julia Karr
Release date: January 6

The title comes from the tattoo the government orders girls to receive on their 16th birthday – a tattoo that signifies that she is ready for sex.  She learns a shocking truth about her past after the brutal death of her mother.  Whew – that gave me chills just typing it.  This is one I won’t miss.

Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Release date: January 11

I read the first chapter online and wanted more!  A young girl and her parents are cryogenically frozen and expect to awaken 300 years later on a new planet … but she awakens 50 years too soon to find that it was no accident – someone tried to kill her.

Timeless by Alexandra Monir
Release date: January 11

This romance sounded really good.  A tragedy forces a modern day girl to move in with her estranged grandparents, finds a diary and goes back and forth in time to the early 1900′s, where she falls in love with a boy … you had me at time travel.

Warped by Maurissa Guibord
Release date: January 11

A girl finds a dusty, frightening unicorn tapestry and begins to have strange dreams.  When she pulls a thread and unlocks a centuries old secret, she has to correct the wrongs of the past.  Did you say unicorns?!  Yep, gotta read this one.

Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning
Release date: January 18

OMG!!!  I have been waiting for this one for a long time!  The finale to this series and the answer to the questions:  who (or what) is Barrons? Will MacKenzie save the world or destroy it?  And most importantly:  will there be a happily-ever-after for Mac and Barrons (please oh please say yes!)?

Blessed by Cynthia Leitich Smith
Release date: January 25

If you read Eternal and Tantalize, you will be pleased to learn that this book combines the two different casts in one deliciously dark story.  I have enjoyed Smith’s previous books, and I’m looking forward to finding out how she meshes the two together.

The Iron Queen by Julie Kagawa
Release date: January 25

In this sequel to The Iron King and The Iron Daughter, Meghan Chase is back from faerie and has her fay Prince Ash by her side, looking forward to school, college and life with her love.  But something happens to change that or else it would be a boring story, wouldn’t it?

Drought by Pam Bachorz
Release date: January 25

Ruby dreams of escaping the Congregation and enslavement to Darwin West.  She wants her freedom and love, but what is she willing to sacrifice?  See Stacy’s review here.
