cover interview with Pam Bachorz

Today we are thrilled to have YA author Pam Bachorz answer a few questions about her latest release, Drought. We thought Drought was pretty awesome (read our review here), and think the cover is pitch perfect!

1. Wow, what a great creeptastic cover. It gives us the chills every time we see it. We would love to hear your initial reaction.

I was absolutely thrilled when I saw the cover for DROUGHT. I had chills!

2. Those mist filled trees, the green piercing eyes… the cover visually expresses the feel of the book. Is this how you pictured the cover when writing the book?

I actually tried NOT to picture a specific cover. I didn’t want to be disappointed by a cover just because it wasn’t what I had pictured. Seeing the cover of your book is one of the most fun parts of being an author, and I wanted it to be a sort of pure joy. Which it was!

3. What’s the one component that you love the most about your cover?

It’s so hard to pick! The trees are so perfect. I feel like I could step into the cover and be entirely in Ruby’s world. But I think my very favorite is the piercing stare of Ruby. It makes you stop and pay attention to the cover, which of course is a great thing for the bookstore.

4. We live in a very visual world and YA covers are no exception, hence we tend to judge books by their covers. What are your thoughts and feelings on this?

I am a very visual person and I love cruising the bookstore, just checking out covers. So whether it’s fair or not, a cover always plays into my overall impression of a book–both before I decide to read it and as I read it. I probably return to that cover two or three times in each reading session.

5. Can you share with us some of your all-time favorite covers?

I could go on and on. Here are a few: MATCHED. MADAPPLE. THE EVOLUTION OF CALPURNIA TATE. THE LUXE (I want. that. dress.)

Thanks for stopping by, and we agree MADAPPLE is an aweome, creepy cover…it’s fantastic!

I bought The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate just because of the cover!
