Book Review: Truly, Madly, Deadly by Becca Wilcott

truly, madly, deadly picAs an avid fan of the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris and the the fact that I only order HBO in the summer to watch True Blood, this book should be right up my alley.

What I liked are the in depth background on some of the characters.  The behind-the-scenes with Nelsan Ellis, the man who plays Lafayette, was so emotional and personal I just wanted to hug him.  This book also confirmed my love for Pam!!

The interesting information of each episode was what I liked the best.  The beginning of the novel, where Wilcott discussed the history of the vampire, was boresome at times for me.  Yes, I am a fan of the vampire, but not enough to want a history lesson before I am about to read about the background of a TV show.  Maybe that could have been a tad bit shorter.  Or maybe some people out there will really like it.  I guess one can just skip over that part.  They aren’t missing anything that has to do with True Blood.  I am a fan of all the information we learn about the songs the episodes are named after and what songs play at the end of each episode.  That was cool.

The pictures in the book aren’t so “behind the scenes”.  I don’t think a picture of the fireplace in Bill’s house is so interesting.  The scene decoration information was very interesting though.  How fun would that be to decorate Sookie’s house? If we have a picture of Bill’s fireplace, maybe it could have told us where it was bought or how they chose that one instead of another.  Just tell us some interesting tidbit about it.

The coolest thing in the book, for me, was the behind the scenes of making the opening credits.  The song that has us all thinking bad thoughts has some fun history.  How the video was shot will make you want to watch the opening again and again.  I can’t wait to see it on Sunday!!

Would I recommend Truly, Madly, Deadly to all my True Blood friends?  Yes.  I wish I could jump up and down and sing it’s praises like I do for the books and show (well, except the length of the MaryAnn arc last season!!).  However, I can only say it is interesting and you will have fun skimming through it reading about the characters and all the episodes in season 1 and 2.

I give Truly, Madly, Deadly 3 STACKS

Love, STACKGirl Shannan who is in True Blood heaven right now as season 3 starts.
