Book Review: Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

59205935_aIt’s official.  Maggie Stiefvater is a genius!  I mean, seriously, her poetic writing makes my heart melt.

Stacy and I knew Shiver was a hit in the literary world.  However, we wanted to start with the books that started Maggie’s career and end with the one everyone is talking about, Shiver. After reading Lament and Ballad – love, love, love James! – We were ready for something pretty darn great.

It surprised me that after 127 pages I wanted to put the book down and never pick it up again.  I was done.  I really didn’t care what happened to this girl as a child and how some wolves lived in her woods.  However, Stacy said, “You HAVE to read it!  We are going to do a podcast!”  (She actually just asked me to read it and said it nicely but I wanted to give my post some dramatic flare)  Ummm… so, the next day, I willed myself to pick the book back up with several cups of coffee in my system (my happy juice) and started reading.

Shiver is about a girl, Grace, whose life is saved as a young girl by a werewolf, Sam and how their intrigue with each other grows over the years, eventually finding love. However, how many more years does Sam have to become human?  How will this supernatural love work out?  Does it sound interesting?  Probably not.  However, it is.  It really is!!  Thank goodness, that Stacy made me finish this novel.  It has become one of my favorites.  I just loved it.  I mean the writing alone should have you singing praises, but the story ended up having my heart feel for the characters.  Okay, I’ll tell you…I actually cried!  Yes, cried!  So there, I said it.

Yes, you should read Shiver!  Yes, go to the store and pick it up pronto!  Unless you have a Kindle, and then you can just zap it on up.  It is worth every penny and you will literally count down the days until Linger is released on July 20, 2010.

There will be one last book, Forever, in The Wolves of Mercy Falls series.

I give Shiver 4.5 stacks!

Love, STACKGirl Shannan
