Book Review: The Stolen One by Suzanne Crowley

When Stacy and I heard that Suzanne Crowley would be visiting our local library in Texas, we were anxious to meet her and to read her book, The Stolen One.
I am a supernatural reader. I like werewolves, vampires and fantasy. However, this Elizabethan fiction novel is one that I was anxious to read.
Kat knew she belonged somewhere grand, not where she has been raised, in the country, no less. In a small cottage, she lives with her “sister,” Anna and her “mother,” Grace creating fascinating needlework for their livelihood. There is one thing that Kat has and it is a proposal from Christian, a very handsome man that has been her best friend her whole life. But Kat must know who her real mother and father are. She feels that she is missing something and must travel to London to find out what it is. She is also anxious to meet the Queen. There are many secrets, with twists, and turns in every chapter. The journal entries from Grace are very interesting at the beginning of most chapters. It helps the reader to know all the characters feelings to be able to relate to the women.
Kat is a strong woman who I admire. She says what she believes and doesn’t let society’s rules determine what she will and will not say. She loves Anna and truly wants to take care of her. She is determined to find out about her past at any cost. Besides, she has red hair, so I am sure Stacy loves her!! She is selfish, but one has to remember that she is only sixteen. Her relationship with the men in her life is comical. I think Christian is a wonderful man who is good through and through. I feel that Kat was just cruel to Christian. She really shouldn’t have left him without a word. Christian does seem real. Just a real, nice guy. In all the supernatural books I have been reading, it is nice to read about a man who doesn’t have fangs. Well, just once…
This book is about so much more than the relationship between Christian and Kat. It is Kat’s relationship with all the people she meets; Grace, Anna, the town’s people, Londoners, the Queen, and several other men.
It’s an interesting ride to see what might have happened to Katherine Parr.
For those of you that love history, a great mystery, a love story, and a bit of imagination, you will surely love The Stolen One!
I give The Stolen One 3.5 Stacks! It’s a great read and Stacy and I can’t wait to meet Suzanne Crowley this week!
Love, STACKGirl Shannan
