Review: The Pull of Gravity by Gae Polisner
from Goodreads.com: While Nick Gardner’s family is falling apart, his best friend, Scooter, is dying from a freak disease. The Scoot’s final wish is that Nick and their quirky classmate, Jaycee Amato, deliver a prized first-edition copy of Of Mice and Men to the Scoot’s father. There’s just one problem: the Scoot’s father walked out years ago and hasn’t been heard from since. So, guided by Steinbeck’s life lessons, and with only the vaguest of plans, Nick and Jaycee set off to find him.

Just when you think you have the whole story figured out, the characters surprise you. They do something you weren’t expecting. In a real life sort of way. It’s not all sunshine and songs of friendship. It’s life. Which reminds me of a quote from the book (I think it’s Latin) “gang aft gangly, best laid plans oft go awry…”
The Scoot, he’s so sweet and cute I just want to pinch his cheeks. He is this precocious little thing that is wise beyond his years, who watches Star Wars and likes to quote Yoda (who’s got it going on, btw). He’s got depth and a heart of gold.
As for road trippers Nick and Jaycee, they are the real deal. Genuine characters, they are. Nick was my favorite. He’s totally honest with himself, and I enjoyed reading his thought patterns. Where one thought was bold and adventurous the other was self-doubt. As for Jaycee, well, she is who I wished I had been like growing up. She takes control and makes things happen.
The best things IMHO about this book are: 1. Fatman2, because that handle is hilarious, in a self-deprecating way. 2. Yoda. Come on people, who doesn’t like a little Yoda wisdom? Hmmm?? 3. I got a twofer. Not only did I get to read a great book, but I got the abbreviated cliff notes Of Mice and Men. I will just refer back to PoG for all future OMM talks.
I give this book 5 STACKS
See you in the STACKS

I can’t wait for this book. Gae is a doll and is so talented.
I love when the characters are like real people…then I can forget that I’m reading and just feel like I’m “experiencing.”
