Unbreakable (Legion #1) by Kami Garcia
Kennedy’s life changes when her mom dies, her life goes into a do-or-die tailspin the night Jared and Lukas Lockhart storm her bedroom. Thus, begins the story of Kennedy and her immediate immersion into the Legion.
The Legion is an ancient secret society made of up five members, who must battle a powerful demon to protect the world as we know it. When I was ‘discussing’ this book on twitter a friend mentioned Scooby and the gang, and folks he was spot on – teens battling evil. This was not said flippantly, but with sincerity. I personally love books about ‘friends overcoming evil, and making sacrifices’ for the greater good. The unique mix of personalities and specialty’s blended nicely with the story and I was all about this ragtag group; hot boy twins Lukas and Jared, nerd boy Priest, the beautiful Rylee and Kennedy. Together, as a group, they rocked it.
This pacing of this story is fast, and just when you think there is a reprieve, a time for the gang to catch their breath, something happens to put the lives of the gang in peril – again.
Oh, and there are a couple of swoony moments. One in a tight, dark space. You can thank Kami after you read it.
I think many will be pleased with this first in a series, though they may be biting their nails waiting for the sequel.
