TRENDING Thursday: E-Readers

amazon kindleI might break down.  Yes, I might just do it.  I might, just might, get an e-reader.

I love the feel of a book with the pages dogeared and loved.  However, I am starting to become impatient.  I remind myself of Veruca Salt. ” I WANT IT NOW!”  In my head, I sing it all cute like though…  I want the book the minute it comes out or when I happen to think of a book I want to read.

According to In-Stat, e-readers are expected to hit $9 billion in 2013.  So, the question seems to be, what kind do I buy?  The Kindle? iRiver? Nook? iRex? Sony?

Seriously, how many are there?  And how am I supposed to know which one is right for me and is reliable?

I definitely have questions and need book-lover advice.  I can’t wait to get your advice.

I would like a Kindle, only because I know someone with one. That way if I have questions, they might just have the answers.

Kindle is a great concept, but theres just something about the smell of a book with worn ridges and yellowed pages.

    Stacy,

I was the same way until I got my Kindle. Todd had been wanting to get me one for some time, but I wasn’t interested b/c I love the feel of books. I still love books and sometimes miss them, but I have fallen in love with the Kindle. The size is similar to a book. It is much easier to use at the gym than a book, no annoying pages trying to flip back and forth. I have found many free books on Amazon’s site. This is a fun way to try a new book. If it isn’t good, no big deal. I’ve even started a new series this way. Of course, the first one was free, but the others were not. But they are cheaper than buying paperbacks. By far, the coolest feature is the ability to buy a book instantly. Well, except for the new Sookie book! But when I find myself finishing a book that is in a series and I want to read the next one NOW, no big deal! It can also be very easy to spend more than you had planned. But I’ve found that I’m very picky over what I download, unless it is free. :)

So there are my thoughts. I still love curling up with a good book, but now sometimes it is on my Kindle!

@Michelle – I LOVE books, and especially like the old book smell (which I have learned is decomposing glue)and how I can write in them and make notes and see those notes the next time I read it. Plus, they look pretty on my bookshelf.

@Jenny – you are my friend with the Kindle!! I am trying to talk Brian into getting me one for mothers day…no such luck.

As nice as a Kindle may be … you can’t get an author to autograph one. Just sayin.

Ah, don’t listen to me, I just have sour grapes because I want one too.
